Ludwig van Beethoven changed his place of residence in Vienna and the surrounding area more than 80 times in the course of his life. Among them is the only address to the left of the Danube, in today’s 21st district in Vienna-Jedlesee.

The city walk begins with a guided tour of the newly compiled Beethoven exhibition in the Floridsdorf District Museum with exhibits, music autographs, portraits and illustrations of the relationship between Countess Anna Maria Erdödy and the composer. The neighborhood tour follows the six tuning forks that illustrate the composer’s life and his excursions to Jedlesee, then leads past the Beethoven memorial and shows the surviving monuments, the natural landscape, churches and castles from Ludwig van Beethoven’s time, when he is documented to have visited Countess Anna Maria Erdödy from Nußdorf several times from 1815 onwards. The carefree atmosphere on the count’s estate and his walks through the Danube floodplains in Jedlesee inspired Beethoven to write numerous compositions. The walk takes you past monuments to Napoleon in Vienna and notable municipal buildings of the “Red Vienna” of the interwar period.
